CAGR calculator: the honest yearly growth rate
"It doubled in 7 years" sounds like 14% a year. It's really about 10%. Turn any big total into the honest yearly number in seconds.
How it works: CAGR (compound annual growth rate) = (end ÷ start)^(1 ÷ years) − 1. It's the one steady yearly rate that would turn the start into the end. Real growth is never steady — CAGR smooths the bumpy path into one number, so you can compare things fairly.
Why "doubled in 7 years" is about 10% a year, not 14%
Total growth divided by years overstates it, because each year builds on the last. Doubling in 7 years is about 10.4% a year compounded — check it with the Rule of 72: 72 ÷ 10.4 ≈ 7. Use CAGR whenever someone quotes a big total return: it turns a headline number into an honest yearly one. Then try that rate in the compound interest calculator.
