How the forex day works
Currencies trade around the clock on weekdays, handed from city to city: Sydney, then Tokyo, then London, then New York. The week opens Sunday evening New York time and closes Friday at 5 pm New York time.
The busiest hours are usually when two big centres are open at once — especially London and New York together. More traders means bigger moves and tighter prices. The quiet hours between sessions often move less and can be choppy.
US stock market hours
The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq are open 9:30 am to 4:00 pm New York time, Monday to Friday, except market holidays. Many brokers also offer early (pre-market) and late (after-hours) trading, when there are fewer traders and prices can jump more.
Good to know: session times shift when clocks change for daylight saving — this page handles that for you. Holidays aren't included; check your broker's calendar. More in The best time of day to trade forex.
