Cardano trading explained: what moves ADA, and when
Cardano grew slowly on purpose. Its team builds in planned stages and publishes research papers, so its big news days are often scheduled upgrades.
At a glance

| What it is | A proof-of-stake blockchain launched in 2017; ADA pays fees and is staked |
| Price step | Set by each exchange, often $0.0001 |
| What a move is worth | Depends on size: 1,000 ADA × a $0.02 move = $20 |

| What moves it most | Bitcoin's direction, network upgrades, app growth, crypto mood |
| Trading hours | 24 hours a day, 7 days a week |
What it is, briefly
Cardano launched in 2017. It was founded by a team led by Charles Hoskinson, one of Ethereum's co-founders. Like Ethereum today, it runs on proof of stake: holders delegate ADA to help secure the network and earn rewards.
Cardano's team is known for a slow, research-first approach, with peer-reviewed papers behind its designs. Its total supply is capped at 45 billion ADA.
What moves it
- Bitcoin. ADA usually follows the wider market's big direction.
- Upgrades. Cardano develops in named stages. Big upgrades get attention before and after they go live.
- App growth. How many apps and users the network draws is closely watched.
- Governance. Holders now get a say in some decisions, and votes can become news.
- The Fed and risk mood. Rate news (FOMC 2:00 pm ET, CPI 8:30 am ET) moves crypto broadly.
When it's busiest
Most activity comes during the Europe-US overlap, roughly 8:00 am to noon ET. US data at 8:30 am ET can stir it. Weekends tend to be thinner.
Its personality
- Follows the market strongly. On many days ADA moves mostly with bitcoin and Ethereum.
- Long trends both ways. ADA has had long rallies and long, slow slides.
- Scheduled news. Upgrade dates are often known ahead of time, which can bring "buy the rumor, sell the news" moves.
- Big holder base that stakes. Staked ADA isn't locked in the same way as on some chains, so it can still move quickly.
Reading it with our method
ADA's long trends make the trend check useful. On the daily chart, mark the last places price turned around. Higher highs and higher lows? That's an uptrend. Lower highs and lower lows? Downtrend. See how to identify a trend.
Check bitcoin's daily chart too. Trade ADA when its own chart and the wider market agree, or size smaller when they don't.
Only a candle body close past a level counts.
Size from the stop. Example: risk $20, stop $0.02 away. $20 ÷ $0.02 = 1,000 ADA. The position size calculator does it fast. A math example, not a promise.

Common mistakes
- Trading upgrade day like a sure thing. Known events are often priced in before they happen.
- Ignoring bitcoin. ADA rarely ignores it.
- Calling a long slide a "discount". A trend down is a trend. Wait for the turning points to change.
- Price-per-coin thinking. With 45 billion max supply, a low price per coin is normal.
