Injective (INJ) explained: the finance chain, and its token burns

Injective was built for one job: running trading apps on a blockchain. On a regular schedule, part of the fees those apps earn is used to burn INJ, and traders watch that supply story closely.

What it is, briefly

Injective was founded in 2018 by Eric Chen and Albert Chon, and was incubated by Binance Labs. Its main network launched in late 2021.

It's built with the Cosmos toolkit and uses proof of stake. It has a built-in order book that apps can share, which suits exchanges, derivatives and other trading tools. It can connect to other Cosmos chains and to Ethereum.

Supply and the burn: INJ started with about 100 million tokens. New INJ goes to stakers, but a burn auction, run weekly for years, sends a share of app fees to buy and destroy INJ. A 2024 upgrade called INJ 3.0 made new issuance shrink faster as more INJ is staked. Whether supply grows or shrinks depends on usage.

What moves it

When it's busiest

The busiest stretch is usually weekday hours when Europe and the US overlap, roughly 8:00 am to noon ET. Injective also has a strong Asian following, so evenings ET can be busy. Weekends are thinner.

Its personality

Reading it with our method

Look at bitcoin's daily chart, then INJ's. Mark the last places price turned around. Trade with INJ's bigger direction.

A burn announcement isn't a signal on its own. Wait for a candle body to close past a turning point.

Size from the stop. Example with made-up numbers: risk $30, stop $3 away. $30 ÷ $3 = 10 INJ. Use the position size calculator. A math example, not a promise.

Injective's apps offer leveraged trading. If you ever use Leverage, check your force-close price with the crypto liquidation calculator first.

Common mistakes

Questions

What is Injective used for?

Running finance apps on a blockchain, like exchanges and derivatives. INJ pays fees, secures the network through staking and is used for voting.

How does the Injective burn auction work?

On a regular schedule (weekly for years), a share of fees from apps on Injective is pooled. People bid for it with INJ, and the winning INJ is destroyed.

Is Injective part of Cosmos?

It's built with the Cosmos toolkit and can connect to other Cosmos chains, but it's its own blockchain with its own token.

Does INJ have a max supply?

It started with about 100 million INJ. New INJ goes to stakers and the burn auction removes some, so supply depends on usage.
