Average down calculator: what's your real break-even?

Bought more as it dropped? Your break-even just moved. Enter each buy and see your true average price — and exactly how far price has to climb to get you back to even.

Each buy: price and how many shares / coins. Leave unused rows blank.

How it works: average cost = total money spent ÷ total amount bought. That's your break-even price (before fees). Buying more at a lower price pulls the average down — but it also makes the position bigger.

The trap hiding inside "averaging down"

Lowering your average feels like progress. But every extra buy adds more money to a trade that's already going the wrong way. If price keeps falling, the loss grows faster than before — not slower. Many traders decide the total they're willing to risk before the first buy, and never add past it. See how much to risk per trade and how to set a stop loss.

Make this a habit, not a one-off. Lesson 2 of our free email course is all about risk: the 1% rule, where the stop goes, and the 2-loss rule. Send me the free lessons →
